Covid has been bloody rough for everyone. No doubt about that!
However the disruption and isolation slipping into the lives of our wiser Hackney residents who have a few good years on us is kinda terrifying. Its been amazing witnessing the community band together to support this section of our neighbourhood picking up groceries, medicines, taking the pets for walks and general chit chats on the doorsteps while this pandemic strips us down to the basics.
We are so lucky that our Nanas and Grandads are living the dream over in Covid (almost) free Aotearoa. But for many this has been a real struggle here in London. One way that we are trying to lift the spirits and engage with our Nanas and Grandads locally is through a new Project we wish to kick into action! ‘Arts Against Isolation’
We have been working with our partner Hackney Council on supporting and developing the Hackney Circle, the council-led, free membership scheme that connects Hackney’s older residents to the arts and culture. In Hackney the growth of the older population is higher than the rest of London. By 2025 it is expected that there will be 24,154 residents aged 65 and over.
We have therefore designed our ‘Arts Against Isolation’ project to complement the borough’s Art and Cultural Strategy and Ageing Well strategy. We want to make sure that the arts and crafts can support our health care services and we have been getting the advice of our Clinical Commissioning Group in Hackney about how our workshops and activities can help reduce the pressure on primary care services.
Arts Against Isolation highlights this crucial relationship between arts and cultural organisations and our health care services and seeks to build a longstanding framework and network for delivering art and crafts initiatives
Our campaign has officially launched and with the help of you cool cats we can show the Mayor of London that we are serious about our older folk and want to help them in the best way we know how, with epic chats and creative crafts.
Jump online and put your £2 in the pot and help us reach our target to put on this programme that can benefit our people beyond what you can even imagine. It really is that great!
Thank you in advance for your support on this one! Fingers crossed.
