Sew a classic button down shirt – 6 x sessions with Brooke

With all the classic techniques of a button down shirt – Designed for ‘men’ to wear, but equally wearable for all people for an oversized workwear look.

This shirt/jacket has a relaxed boxy fit. Details include a fully enclosed style yoke, two peice collar, sleeve plackets, pockets with flaps and button closure down the shirt front and sleeve cuffs also with buttons.

PLEASE NOTE : Bookings for this class will close on 2nd September to allow time to order the patterns in.

Week One – Measuring your body, cutting out your pattern from paper. Prep and lay out your fabric and cut the cloth

Week Two – Sewing the pockets and pocket flaps. Sew front and overlock

Week Three – Sew back yoke and make a start on the sleeves and plackets

Week Four – Attach sleeves to shirt including sewing the side seams

Week Five – Interface pieces, sew collar and cuffs and tidy all seams

Week Six – Finish the hem and sew buttonholes and hand sew on buttons

  • MT will provide – thread, pattern ( The Arbor)  and printed instructions, interfacing, tuition and guidance.
  • You will need to bring – Light/Medium weight woven (non stretch) fabric. Cotton & cotton blends , chambray, linen, lightweight corduroy
  • Fabric must be prewashed.  You will need approx 2.5 – 3.5 mts (depending on size)
  • You will also need 13 x 1.5cm wide buttons

Size range covers – Chest 86cm – 137cm

This course is suitable for confident beginners. Those who have completed our ‘Learn to Sew’ short course and have other relevant basic sewing experience.

There are lots of great techniques to learn during this course which can be applied again and again in your sewing practice

Will this class be suitable for me?

Could be?  You don’t need to be an expert but you need to be comfortable threading a sewing machine, straight seams etc.

We recommend you have completed our ‘Learn to Sew’ short course first, and this is perfect for those looking to deepen their skillset including reading a commercial pattern.

I will hold your hand through everything else!

Can I cancel my booking?

Absolutely. You are welcome to log into your account and cancel your booking for a full refund. You have up to 14 days before the start date to do this. After this period, all bookings are final.

Unlike our other workshops – we need to order in the patterns – so there is a 14 day cancellation policy on this class. Thank you for your understanding in advance.

What happens if I don't finish the dress?

Oh Rats. Thats ok, all projects take different lengths of time for different people. You are welcome to book into ‘Late night Sewing’ workshops or ‘Hire a Machine’ to complete your dress

What is the minimum age to attend?

We are happy to host well behaved people 16+ Please ensure your teenager is able to get home safely after the class or picked up on time.

What Fabrics are suitable?

Natural fibres are best! Cotton, cotton blends, needlecord (tiny corduroy) chambray – anything not slinky and shifty. Woven Fabric – so not knit (stretchy)
